I never used to drink coffee, I thought it was ‘bad’ —full stop. However years ago, I was working with a Naturopath who told me that, “it depends.”

Yes, this is actually my cup. 🙂
“Depends on what” you may ask, which I did. I never got an answer that satisfied me, but it opened the door to a possibility —that drinking coffee isn’t all bad.
Some pretty cool research has now proven how coffee can actually help you perform better, think better, and feel better.
IMPOSSIBLE!
Sounds impossible, right? Or, too good to be true.
Well, just like everything, it is best to do a little research before leaping on the bandwagon.
Health, nutrition and longevity guru, David Wolfe, warns about the abuse of substances that were originally used as one thing and how it is easy for you to move toward something else… let me explain.
Originally, caffeine, nicotine and alcohol were used as carriers and delivery mechanisms for other nutrients, as they have characteristics that help the body “open up and say ‘ahhhhh’” at a cellular level.
Why to you think so many pharmaceuticals have caffeine in them? Because they help the active components get ‘in’, that’s why. Here’s a list of pharmaceuticals that have caffeine in them: Click to see list
WOW! 13 pages of drugs!
Thirteen pages of drugs that have caffeine in them, wow! Do you think they do enough research in the big pharma industry to justify the use of caffeine? I would argue so.
How about alcohol?
Just walk into any pharmacy or herbal centre and you will heaps of tinctures bottled in a suspension of what? Alcohol —that’s what.
Not only does alcohol preserve the active constituents inside the bottle, it is a powerful delivery mechanism for those active constituents.
Do your own research
Don’t take my word for it, be sure to do your own research, and what does all this have to do with having a nice cup of coffee in the morning? (or two…)
If you are understanding what I am getting at about caffeine being a delivery mechanism for other compounds into the body, this ought to make you think deeply about what you are putting in your morning coffee as what you put in it will be amplified for ingestion by the body.
Now this is important!
Why this is important to realize is that if you are the type of person who puts cream and sugar in your coffee, or has a mochaccino, cafe latte, etc., you are inadvertently amplifying the effects of that cream, sugar or other substances that are contrary to health.
The milk and cream we get in stores (and coffee shops) is a toxic soup of sterilized compounds and fragmented nutrients and is a ‘dead food’ sold to us as nutrition, but it tastes good in coffee. No wonder there are so many milk allergies.
As for sugar… if you have not been made aware of how detrimental processed sugar is for you, you REALLY must begin to explore this —for your health and the health of your children, if you have them.
Back to coffee
Coffee is one of those substances that you likely abuse if you drink it. Sorry, to be blunt, but it is probably true as it is a very elite club (to which membership is free btw) that uses coffee for its health benefits.
Coffee is the perfect delivery mechanism for nutrients. The caffeine in coffee helps blood vessels in your body dilate and allow for easier nutrient exchange, so BEWARE of what you put in your coffee.
Dave Asprey is an internationally renowned leader in what is called bio-hacking, the art and science of ‘hacking’, or taking shortcuts, to improve human performance. He is famous for bringing the world Bulletproof Coffee, which acts as the basis for my favourite way to drink coffee.
My favourite way to drink coffee
I draw from Asprey’s recipe for Bulletproof Coffee, to deliver much needed healthy fats and super foods into my body. Here’s my recipe for what I typically have in the morning:
COFFEE 1: (early morning)
⁃ Freshly ground Organic, well-sourced, brewed coffee
⁃ 2 tablespoons of grass-fed, organic butter
⁃ 1 – 2 tablespoons of MCT Oil
⁃ Blend all ingredients in blender, pour and enjoy
COFFEE 2: (mid morning)
⁃ 1/2 Freshly ground Organic, well-sourced, brewed coffee
⁃ 1/2 Freshly brewed Chaga mushroom decoction
⁃ 2 tablespoons of grass-fed, organic butter
⁃ 1 – 2 tablespoons of MCT Oil
⁃ 1 heaping teaspoon of Reishi mushroom powder
⁃ Blend all ingredients in blender, pour and enjoy
The fats in the butter help my cells and vessels become healthier, they are made of fat. MCT oil, derived from organic virgin coconut oil is a medium chain triglyceride (MCT) that enhances metabolism and brain function. Chaga is one of the world’s richest sources of the powerful anti-oxidant, SOD (superoxide dismutase). Reishi has more health benefits than I could describe, but you could start with an immunity stimulant, cardiovascular health enhancer and mood regulator to name but a few.
There you have it, this is how I drink my coffee 90% of the time, as I’m not perfect. 😉
Do some research and try it, let me know how it works for you.
