Ok, so first of all, this injury isn’t actually 5 years old.

Rather the injury came as a result of playing an all-out, full-contact, to-the-death game of “freeze tag” with my 5 year old, his friend and her father, who is a friend of ours.

(Am I getting old?)

Yes, as a result of playing too hard, too fast, I earned myself an owie to my left knee. So, in the spirit of the presumption that everything that happens is an opportunity that serves you, how about we look at what this ‘5 year-old injury’ taught me about being stubborn.

Let’s start with…

What knees represent from a Body Message Perspective

The knees represent flexibility when it comes to carrying you through your life. If you look at actions and activities that are dynamically knee-related, you will undoubtedly notice that they have the flavour of humility running through them.

A knight comes before his king or queen and goes down on one knee as his sign of respect and loyalty.

A football player is called in by his coach and told to “take a knee” and he does so out of respect.

A woman decides to learn Aikido and the first thing she is led to do is sit in a kneeling position (also utilized in advanced techniques btw).

A man gets down on one knee, professes his love to the woman he is seeing, and proposes marriage.

The knee is a measurement in the inner flexibility to move forward with strength through the form of humility.

I tweaked my left knee, on the inside, above the joint, on the top of the big bony protuberance we call the inside of the knee. My assessment leads me to think I strained the insertion point of a muscle called adductor magnus, which is a big muscle, that you could loosely call your groin, though it is more involved than that.

It runs from the ‘groin’, or the bottom of the pelvis, is attached all the way down the back part of the bone that runs from the hip to the knee, and terminally inserts on the condyle on the inside of the knee.

Although adductor magnus is not technically part of the knee (as it doesn’t cross the knee joint itself), it twinges when I use my knee, so I follow the logic and will include it. Other body parts will be involved, but I will omit them in the spirit of time and simplicity.

The red arrow points to where I feel the pain when I use my knee.  Besides doing the indicated therapeutic R.I.C.E. care, (Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate), using DMSO and other natural (non-pharmaceutical) anti-inflammatories, what could I do to use this as an opportunity instead of an inconvenience?

How I will use this as an opportunity to heal my non-physical parts

… and potentially my physical parts.

As much as I want to help you relieve your physical pain and discomfort, I find it way more rewarding and helpful when I can help you resolve any emotional turbulence along the way as well. Same goes for when helping myself. (Please note: although this is about me, I risk sharing it in hopes you can get the drift of how you could do this in your world.)

1) First, I want to look at the overall parts:

  • LEFT: feminine aspects; yin; emotional support; nurturing; receiving; mother/caregiver
  • KNEE: flexibility; support; humility; commitment; loyalty; difficulty accepting the direction life is going
  • STRAIN: inflammation; anger; frustration
  • MUSCLE: relationship to role with the outside world

2) Then, identify a theme you can work with from the above parts: (I’ve colour-coded them to help you connect-the-dots)

  • LEFT: feminine aspects; yin; emotional support; nurturing; receiving; mother/caregiver
  • KNEE: flexibility; support; humility; commitment; loyalty; difficulty accepting the direction life is going
  •  STRAIN: inflammation; anger; frustration
  • MUSCLE: relationship to role with the outside world

3) Explore using the Discovery principles: (here are a few examples)

  • The reason why I am feeling frustrated with the direction I am going in my life is because _____________.
  • I am angry about the support I’m receiving from others because _______________.
  • How I am not nurturing my relationship with others with my life direction is ________________.
  • Hopefully this colour coding gives you an idea of how to pull out Discoveries from the information you collect as you learn what different parts of the body represents. Using this method of thought will help you use your imagination to use the facts to mine out beliefs*.

(*It makes no difference whether or not your mind thinks it is true or not.  We are simply looking for different configurations that could have a possible charge of some kind, at some level, even sub-conscious.)

4) By doing #3, you will come up with a list of beliefs that may be even more colourful than the above coding system. 😉

  • Now, resolve the energy by exploring how many limiting and negative thoughts, or positive ones, come up for any particular Discovery.
  • Simply get yourself grounded (if you don’t know how, message me), and explore where your mind wants to go with the above discoveries. The trick is to bring up the beliefs without attaching any significance to them.
  • The beliefs may FEEL emotional, but they are really just the presence of energy that isn’t resonant with the REAL You.
  • Sit quietly with these thoughts and an open-hearted awareness, without judging them.

It is not dust’s fault that it ends up in your house, just like it isn’t your fault charged mind-content ends up in your head. BUT, it IS your opportunity to clean it up if you want a nice, clean environment in which to enjoy life.

Just FYI

The title of this post is What a 5 Year Old Injury Taught Me About Being Stubborn, so you might ask, “what did it teach you about being stubborn?”

After going through the above discoveries, I ended up with several resolution statements to resolve, a few of which are as follows:

  • I need things to turn out my way
  • I always need things to turn out my way
  • Having things turn out my way makes me feel smart
  • Having things turn out my way makes me feel valuable
  • I know better than the Universe
  • I am stubborn
  • Stubborness keeps me safe
  • Stubborness keeps me safe from receiving the Universe’s bounty
  • It’s okay for me to transcend stubborness
  • I’m willing to forgive stubborness
  • I’m willing to forgive why I have been stubborn
  • It’s okay for me to receive in a way I don’t see
  • I’m willing to forgive wanting to have it all my way

Ahhhhhh… when I ground, open my heart, and just sit with the awareness of ‘dust’ that has entered my field, I feel a calmness and clarity emerge –just as it can for you too. In this case, stubborness appeared in my field as an injury, but in the it end gave me an opportunity to clean up a section of my field.  Try it.

Just remember, none of the beliefs are true or personal, so you can really feel free to go after the big ‘dust-DINOSAURS’ lurking under the couch — so to speak.

Go Deep – Take Action,

Tymothy

PS – Next week, we will dive deeply into humility. Come back for that, and, in the meantime, share this post. 🙂

PPS – do you have a grounding technique, or do you need one? Let me know.
